In 2006, Costco sales totalled $52 billion with 462 stores nationwide. Pretty successful, right? The CEO, Jim Sinegal is on a first name basis with employees and pulls in a whopping salary of $350,000 a year. Granted, as founder, Sinegal also has a large amount of stock in the company, but to me, that's ok. He founded it and he should reap the long-term rewards. However, the fact that he takes a relatively modest annual salary shows he "gets it". The company pays hourly staff $17 an hour, which is well above the national average. So, it can be done. Costco is a good, solid company and from what I've read, the employees and the management are all quite happy and living a good life. Why can't other CEO's put their egos aside, live a "normal" life, and stop asking for handouts??? The CEO of Costco is a fantastic example of an effective top-level executive who “gets it”.
