The Democrats had their beginning in the South. The Democrats belong to Democratic Party which is one of the two major successful political parties in the United States, along with the Republican Party. This party has produced many powerful and influential political leaders since its start. It is the oldest political party in political history of the United States and it is one of the oldest parties in the world.

Democrats are still successful in holding a large number of registered voters for the party. Democrats hold a majority of state governorships. The control of majority of state legislatures is in Democrats hands. The Oval Office in the White House is also held by democrats in U.S.

Richard Russell, Edwin Edwards, Bill Nelson and many more are among the uncountable list of Southern Democrats who did their best for the people and party’s best. Barack Obama, the current President of the United States, is the 15th Democrat to hold the office.

The main objective of the democrats is to help people to live better lives. If we look at the History of the Democrats, we will find that they have favored farmers, laborers, labor unions, and religious and ethnic minorities. They have always opposed unregulated business and finance, and favored progressive income taxes.

• Democrats emphasize on higher minimum salary and are in favor of regular increments. In 2006, the Democrats supported six state ballot initiatives to increase the minimum wage and all six initiatives passed.
• They support tax structures to help improve the society’s economy and gagner l argent. They opposed tax cuts and incentives that are given to oil companies. They support for developing domestic renewable energy sources and means.
• Democrats support more government finances for social services and welfare activities while spending less money on the military.
• They believe in quality and affordable health care services. Their aim is to provide every citizen with the health facilities.
• Democrats have insight for environmentalism. They are of the view that environment should be protected from the chemicals and pollution.
• For Democrats, Education is very important at least till college level. They aim for low tuition fees and competent education.
• They have always been working for country’s financial stability and improvement. That’s why they always seek forward to healthy trade agreements with different countries like Mexico real estate.

The campaigns and promotional activities of Democrats are supported by Democratic National Committee (DNC). The DNC sponsors the College Democrats of America (CDA). It is a student’s organization; the goal is training and engaging a new generation of Democratic campaigners and activists. Democrats Abroad is another organization with the goals of the party and encourage Americans living abroad to support the Democrats.
